BOTULINUM TOXIN (BOTOX ®)

  • Temporarily relaxes the injected muscle by blocking nerve impulses, therefore reducing dynamic wrinkles

  • With the added use of TSK needles, pain is minimal as the injections are performed

  • Anaesthesia is therefore not required and requires no down time post treatment

  • Effect can be noted between 2-14 days

  • The duration of muscle paralysis can last up to six months but typically range from three to four months

  • Treatments can be repeated at a minimum of three monthly intervals


Contraindications

  • Infection at injection site

  • Previous allergic reaction to Botulinum toxin type A injections

  • Past medical history including  muscle related conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis or Eaton Lambert syndrome

  • Under the age of 18

  • Pregnant or breast feeding


Side effects

  • Mild local pain and tenderness

  • Bruising

  • Allergy

  • Temporary relaxation of nearby muscle groups causing drooping of the eyebrow or eyelids. 

  • Unexpected benefits such as easing of tension type headache


After Care Advice

  • Avoid touching or applying cosmetic products to the treated are for the first 48hrs to minimise the risk of infection

  • Avoid vigorous exercise and alcohol-based products on the area treated for 48 hours

  • Avoid hot environments and alcohol for the first 24hrs to minimise migration of product

DERMAL FILLERS

  • Aid to smooth wrinkles and add volume and contour by injecting hyaluronic acid

  • It works by drawing in water to replace this volume loss and restore the structural support thereby augmenting the skin

  • It is temporary and biodegradable and can last between 1 to 2 years but does vary depending on

    • Density of the filler

    • Injection area

    • Patient’s metabolism

  • Anaesthesia is generally not required and requires no down time post treatment

  • Most fillers have added anaesthetic and topical cream is used depending on treatment location

  • Results are seen right after the treatment with gradual improvement over the next few weeks


Contraindications

  • Infection at injection site

  • Previous allergic reaction

  • Under the age of 18

  • Pregnant or breast feeding


Side effects

  • Mild local pain and tenderness

  • Bruising

  • Allergy

  • Contour irregularities - Massaging can usually smooth out any ‘lumpiness’ however if persistent the filler can be easily and rapidly dissolved

  • Infection

  • Vascular occlusion - when the dermal filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel and it subsequently blocks the blood supply to the skin/tissue in that area

  • Blindness – This is a very rare complication. Approximately 100 cases in the world and is caused by injecting dermal filler into blood vessel which has a connection with the artery which supplies blood and oxygen to the eye
